Davis Station, Antarctica
Four almost unrecognisable Adélie penguins surviving in the harsh winter conditions. The penguin’s ability to adapt to the extreme cold by using their feathers and puffing them up creating layers which trap their body heat in. Penguins also have a thick layer of fat or blubber which improves heat retention; however this is predominately useful while in the water. These penguins are in a pre-moulting stage where they will soon lose their current coat of feathers and grow new ones.
