Brookes Hut, Vestfold Hills, Antarctica.

It’s an amazing spectacular seeing these mafic dykes criss-cross the Vestfold Hills. The ancient formations from magma are high Magnesium tholeiite and Iron rich tholeiite. Ranging in widths from a few centimetres up to 25m and can be traced in distances of approximately 25kms. Most of the dykes align between 15-30° East of north, or between 35-45° West of North. Brookes Hut, accessible from the land or sea ice is used for remote research away from Davis Station where basic sleeping and cooking facilities are provided. The highest hill in this photograph is 134m, with the highest in the area Boulder Hill at only 157m.
