Crystal Sound, Antarctic Peninsula. Christmas Day 2012

Antarctica at its finest! This scene really depicts many aspects of the incredible continent. I only have two photos in focus of approximately thirty I took of this scene. Unknown to the viewer, I’m in a zodiac which is cruising alongside the edge of the sea ice. We had just turned around getting ready to head back to the ship when we saw three Adélie penguins. Just behind them rafted sea ice creating a dramatic effect when it meets a stationary object. In the distance low stratus cloud hugs the steep mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula. Antarctica is really the final frontier, a collective collaboration of research into understanding the past and perhaps a key to the future.
